To access the list of items from the register app, go to Manage Data > Items.
At the top of the screen, you’ll find the search bar. You can scan a barcode or type item details to quickly narrow down your item list. The search function supports the following fields:
- name
- description
- sku
- searchable fields
- category
The item list is displayed in a table format with key information readily available. The column headers include:
- name
- category
- price
- quantity
- description
- asset account name
- expense account name (cost of goods)
- income account name
These fields give you a quick overview of each item’s key details, making it easy to manage your inventory.
Quickly open an item record by hovering over a row—when it turns green, click to open the selected item.
register specific features for items #
These fields are register specific and are not available in QuickBooks Online. They do not sync to or from QuickBooks Online. These additional item fields are designed to enhance the checkout experience in the register and allow for more flexible item identification and lookup.
Purpose #
- enable Quick Pick functionality for frequently sold items.
- add custom searchable fields (e.g., barcodes, numbers, text) to improve item lookup efficiency during checkout.
Searchable Fields #
Searchable fields let you quickly locate items during checkout or when browsing item lists. You can create multiple custom fields relevant to your item, such as:
- Barcode (EAN/UPC) – Ideal for scanned items.
- Number – For SKU, internal codes, or other numeric identifiers.
- Text – alternate codes, alpha-numeric, or other text-based attributes.
Each of these fields is fully searchable within the register.
